Tobias Kuhnimhof heads the Institute for Urban and Transport Planning at RWTH Aachen University since March 2019. He holds degrees in transportation engineering and applied cultural science from the KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany). At KIT’s Institute for Transport Studies (IfV) he had a researcher position from 2002 to 2010 and obtained his doctorate degree in the field of travel demand modeling in 2007. In 2007, he also worked for INRETS, Paris, and from 2009 to 2010 he was director of statistics and modeling at STRATA GmbH, Karlsruhe, a consultancy specializing in travel and tourism. From 2010 to 2014, Tobias was a research coordinator for the Institute for Mobility Research (ifmo), a research establishment of the BMW group. From 2014 to 2019 Tobias Kuhnimhof was head of the department for passenger transport at the Institute for Transport Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin. Tobias is a member of several national and international committees on measuring, modeling and forecasting travel. He is a leading expert in travel survey data analysis and modeling, as well as international comparisons of travel behavior and its evolution over time.
