“RoCK – Regions of Connected Knowledge” – Transport model

Updating the transport model and calculating two forecast scenarios

Background:

As part of project “RoCK – Regions of Connected Knowledge”, a feasibility study for an innovative railway connection between the campuses of RWTH Aachen University needed to be conducted. The feasibility was calculated using the data of the transport model of the city of Aachen.

The Aachen transport model was newly created in 2002. However, since then there have been significant shifts in commuter, shopping, and recreational traffic, which in turn mean changes in the 2002 model. To take this into account, the 2002 database was updated accordingly for this project.

Aims of the project:

Updating the transport model and calculating two forecast scenarios.

Project contents and structure:

The cell structure of the study area of the Interreg project was made more detailed. The structural data basis and the networks were then updated in order to provide the feasibility study with an up-to-date basis of data. The network scenarios were developed and calculated.
