MOBITAT2050 - Living and working 2050 - A sustainable mobility for commuters of the future

 

Background

Large cities in Germany have been experiencing strong population growth for several years. This brings with it challenges such as a shortage of affordable housing. More people in urban areas also mean an increase in traffic and associated negative effects, such as noise, air pollutants and separation effects. These developments shape residential and workplace location relations as well as the associated commuting traffic. At the same time, developments in the areas of digitalisation and automation offer the potential for fundamental changes in the transport system.

 

Project Goal

The aim of the research project is to develop a transferable set of instruments that can be used to analyse the effects of digitalisation and automation on commuting behaviour, taking into account the choice of residence and workplace. Based on this, effective measures for a sustainable region of the future will be derived. The findings are to find their way into municipal and regional practice with the help of innovative processes.

 

Contents and Structure of the Project

In the MOBITAT 2050 project, a sustainable concept for regions of the future is to be developed through the integrated consideration of living, working and transport. In addition to analyses of all three sub-areas and empirical surveys, the project focuses on the development of an integrated model. A housing and workplace model will be developed and coupled with an existing transport model to take into account the interdependencies. Within the framework of a comprehensive sustainability assessment, the transport and social effects of the measures developed in the project will be analysed. Building on the model-based insights gained, options for action for the design of a sustainable region of the future will be created.

 
 
 

The city-regional model project is being developed using the example of the FrankfurtRhineMain metropolitan region. This region has particularly strong commuter links, and Frankfurt is the city with the most commuters in Germany.
