NRW Forschungskolleg Access!

Transformation paths to sustainable mobility

Project objective and content

In the NRW Forschungskolleg "ACCESS!" scientists from various disciplines at RWTH Aachen University conduct research on the implementation of sustainable mobility in cooperation with practice partners. The research focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration. The diverse dissertation topics are anchored in practical municipal projects. After a successful first term from 2016 to 2020, the Forschungskolleg "ACCESS!" will be continued from 2021 to 2024 with new fellows.

The Forschungskolleg focuses on the development of transformation paths for integrated technology and mobility concepts and sustainable mobility systems. The research aims to derive specific recommendations for action for society, politics, economy and citizens. For this purpose, the dissertation topics will be divided into the three implementation levels "regional mobility system", "municipal mobility concepts" and "service-oriented technology paths". On these levels, inter- and transdisciplinary teams will work on specific transformation projects. In order to achieve a spatially integrated perspective, the current funding phase has a regional focus on the mobility region of Aachen.

The Institute of Urban and Transport Planning (ISB) is represented by a fellow in the Forschungskolleg "ACCESS!" and researches the spatial arrangement, equipment and impact of mobility hubs in urban areas.
