SULEICA
Smart Urban Logistics through Electrification Collaboration and Automation - Development, testing and optimization of automated networked electric light vehicles for smart urban city center logistics
The transport of goods is an essential requirement for economic exchange and an important component of urban traffic. Due to e-commerce, the transport volume has increased dramatically in recent years and further growth is predicted for the future. Electrification and automation in particular offer potential for rethinking the transport processes of tomorrow. To achieve this successfully, new logistics concepts are needed that can be integrated into urban life in such a way that they contribute to increasing the sustainability of transport.
The SULEICA project "Smart Urban Logistics through Electrification Collaboration and Automation" therefore focuses on the development, testing and optimization of automated networked electric light vehicles (so-called "ducktrains") for smart urban inner-city logistics in Aachen. SULEICA pursues a holistic approach, which focuses on the acceptance of the technology and the performance of the system for different applications and minimizes environmental impacts on the urban space.
The Institute of Urban and Transport Planning is primarily concerned with the following questions:
- In which logistics chains can the vehicles be used?
- Can existing infrastructure be used or how must new infrastructure be designed?
- What impact on traffic is expected?
- What are the effects on the environment and the economy?
To answer these questions, a detailed analysis of the infrastructure is conducted and simulation models are used.
